ICLEI Africa has been engaged in an Urban Planning and Development Control Strengthening Assignment. The objectives of this assignment are to:

• Equip urban Local Governments with the skills, knowledge and protocols needed for effective development, implementation, and enforcement of urban plans;
• Equip staff in government ministries, zonal offices, and regional administrative secretariats to guide the development of quality urban plans;
• Support Local Government implementation and enforcement of urban plans and urban development laws/regulations; and
• Inform the public of rules and regulations governing urban development and increase voluntary compliance with urban development plans, laws and regulations.

This assignment will generate dialogue as well as actions that can be taken forward to improve the legal and regulatory framework governing urban planning and development control in Tanzania. In addition, the project will improve general understanding and willingness to comply with development conditions which are necessary for well-functioning cities.
