The ICLEI World Congress connects local and regional governments with their peers and strategic partners, and provides a platform for discussions that will inform and enhance their work.

ICLEI World Congress 2021-2022 had three parts (in order to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic):

1. Virtual launch – a fully virtual experience that kicked off the Congress with high-level and insightful global discussions.
2. Webinar series – took participants on a tour around the world, exploring global sustainable development advances as we moved toward 2022.
3. Malmö summit – three days of strategic high-level dialogues building on themes explored in 2021, as well as engaging technical site visits, in-depth workshops, and multiple networking opportunities especially suited for in-person participation
