The Malmö Commitment engagement consist in two-tier approach:
- All local and regional governments can become supporters of the Malmö Commitment, as well as other partners working together with local and regional governments in local sustainable development.
- Select local and regional governments taking the lead in embedding social equity at the core of their local sustainable development will become pioneers [Supporters of the Malmö Commitment will have the chance to become pioneers in the future, after an evaluation process].
In an initial phase, ICLEI will pilot the Malmö Commitment methodology with a small group of pioneers following a circular approach with four steps: Analyze, Strategize, Act, and Accelerate; and will support them with technical assistance along the way. ICLEI will also provide the network for knowledge and lessons learned exchange.
